FAQ

are walk-ins accepted?

All trips are by reservation only.  Since we do not have a physical storefront, we are not able to accept walk-ins.  We use the Indian Channel Boat Launch for the start and stop point of all kayak trips.  We will meet you at the boat launch with the kayaks at your scheduled start time.

Where can i park?

Parking is available at the Indian Channel Boat Launch during the duration of your trip – no shuttling required.  On site parking does require the Michigan Recreation Passport.  If you are from out of state, a parking pass can be purchased at any Michigan State Park.  Free parking is also available off site.

What is the experience level required?

The Grand River and its bayous are great for all experience levels.  Generally speaking, the water is calm and offers an easy and relaxing paddle.  The biggest factor affecting how challenging it will be to paddle is the wind.  We highly recommend checking the weather before you book.

What Age do you reccomend for young paddlers?

We recommend that anyone using a single kayak is at least 12 years old.  When it comes to taking younger children kayaking it is ultimately up to the discretion of the parents. Since all children are different – maturity, physical capability, and experience level of the parents are some key factors to keep in mind.  Many children between ages 8 and 12 are ready to paddle from the front seat of a tandem kayak.  For children 7 and younger we recommend having them ride duffer (as a non paddling passenger in the center of a tandem kayak).  If you are planning to have a small child riding duffer please let us know ahead of time so we can supply a cushion for them to sit on as well as a child sized PFD.
